Rape Myths

Countless women are sexually assaulted and raped in the military. Women should be congratulated for standing up and holding the perpetrators accountable; instead they’re being victimized again by the public ("the third rape" as Andrea Dworkin would call it-the first being the actual rape, the second being the trial in which the victim's rape is retold and relived.) The same old rape myths are circulating around the comments section on this article . “She deserved it because she was drunk,” “She probably slept with him and then regretted it, now she’s calling it rape,”etc.  All these woman-hating  favourites make an appearance. Some vile being named Huggsyug goes as far as saying , “All these stories sound suspect.” Yes, Huggsyug, all the women made it all up. Insert eyeroll. I don’t know why I bother reading the comment sections on any articles because I always end up angry. Will things ever change for women? How can some women insist that there is no need for feminism in this day and age when there are people like Huggsyug  out there possibly serving on the jury of a rape trial?

  1. I have to believe that things will change. I don't think a lot of people understand what feminism actually means. I think they think it's about "man hating" and not about equality of the sexes. It's sad, but it has to be fixable.

  2. It's hard to keep faith in huMANity when there are so many a**hole doodz out there. For me, feminism is about recognizing that we live under a patriarchy and the need to break free from it.
